Dental Implants in Kent & Gillingham
What are dental implants?
Implants are titanium rods that act as a replacement for a natural root. This then supports a crown so that it looks natural in your mouth. Dental Implants can be used to replace one or multiple crowns, as well as bridgework and loose dentures. Dr Mohsin Uddin has carried out a one year hand on training programme in implants under a world renowned Harley Street Clinician. Further to this he is the youngest ever clinician to be accepted on the highly competitive FGDP Diploma in Implant Dentistry. This is recognised by the General Dental Council as the Gold Standard in Implant Training.
Planning for dental implants:
A full consultation is needed to assess your requirements and what steps are necessary to achieve your goals. This includes taking moulds of your teeth as well as a series of photos. A scan (radiograph or CT Scan) may be necessary to assess where we can place a dental implant predictably. By gathering as much information as possible - one can determine where implants can be placed to create a natural and long lasting result.
Who can have implants?
Virtually anyone can have dental implants. Dr Mohsin Uddin would assess your wishes, time availability, deadlines, medical and dental health and finances to create a unique plan for you. Dr Mohsin Uddin will advise you of the benefits and risks of any procedure so you can be fully on board with your commitment towards your oral health. Patients travel to Nelson Road from all over Kent including areas such as Gillingham
What’s the procedure?
Implant placement is a small surgical procedure that is carried out while you are awake. It is similar to having any other dental procedure – although sedation is sometimes used for long procedures or nervous clients. The after effects are similar to having a tooth taken out- slight discomfort if any. We follow strict conditions set out by the GDC and Faculty of General Practitioners, making it the Gold Standard in implant therapy. You will always have Dr Uddin’s personal number so your implant journey can be as care free as possible.
Once an implant is placed, we place a crown on top if possible. If not possible we will close up the area where an implant has been placed and cover it up with a temporary solution. You will not be left without teeth. We then let you heal and return to complete the process 3-6 months later.
How successful are implants?
Implants have proven to be 95 % successful after a 10-year period. This percentage is increasing every year as technology and skills increase. As with all artificial materials in your mouth, maintenance is required and regular evaluations with the hygienist is necessary. If this is not followed then you are likely to experience the same problems as natural teeth.
Single Tooth Implant
When you have a small gap at the front or back of your mouth- or if you have a single failing tooth- a single implant is an ideal solution. Implants have proven to be very safe, predictable and long lasting. It does not require the adjacent teeth to be drilled and therefore acts independently to other teeth.
Multiple Dental Implants
When you have multiple missing teeth or failing teeth- more than one dental implant will be necessary to create a predictable solution. This can help support a bridge or denture as part of a smile makeover or full mouth reconstruction.
Loose dentures?
You are not alone. Most people do not get on with lower dentures. Dentures require support to stop them moving. This can be from teeth, gums or both. If you have no teeth, then the gum and bone shrink over time. This creates a constantly loose denture. You can stop the bone shrinking by placing implants- which can then support the denture. This will give you dentures that are great once again for chewing, speaking and smiling confidently.
Immediate Teeth
This is a great concept when replacing a failing tooth. Sometimes the failing tooth can be removed and an implant placed straight away. If we can we will place a temporary crown that will look good and function well. If we can't place the crown that day then an alternative form of replacement will be given so you don’t walk out toothless
Teeth in a hour/Same day teeth
This is a relatively new concept that allows all failing teeth to be replaced by predictable implant placement on the same day. You will walk out with teeth that look good and function well, giving you the confidence to talk, chew and smile confidently.
Soft tissue recreation
Where teeth have been lost or missing for a long time- the gum may have to be reshaped or rebuilt to create a natural looking smile.
Bone Regeneration
Where teeth have been lost or missing for a long time- the bone may have shrunk such that implant placement is not possible. Further procedures may have to be carried out to grow bone before implants can be placed predictably. Comprehensive Care
Are you fed up with your concerns not being heard? Do you wonder why your teeth keep on breaking? Are you looking for long-term solutions? Dr Mohsin Uddin has been trained at the Pankey Institute, USA which helps the dentist understand what the client really wants. By listening carefully and collecting all necessary information, we can create a plan for your oral health based on your wishes and budget. We believe all clients should have a comprehensive exam before embarking on any major dental work.
Oral health
For dentistry to be predictable and long lasting, it must be built on solid foundations. We promote healthy gums, teeth and smile. Clients who already have significant dentistry in their mouths require a team approach from their dentist and hygienist. This will help maintain their oral health for years to come.
Invisible fillings
We promote cosmetic or invisible fillings. Dr Mohsin Uddin has trained with the Master of invisible filling- Dr Newton Fahl from Brazil- to bring to the UK predictable methods in giving you natural looking fillings. Whether you are looking to change your silver fillings or looking for mercury free dentistry, we can offer you predictable solutions for a more confident smile.
Mercury Free dentistry
We do not place silver filling and therefore place mercury free fillings. There is no scientific evidence of mercury fillings causing any health related issues but we feel it is not aesthetic and alternative materials exist.
Research shows that mercury leaks out over time and is absorbed into the body. However there has been no conclusion into whether it causes harm. We can even take a sample of your hair strand and see what your level of mercury is!
We protect our clients from mercury vapour when removing them. A barrier called rubber dam and high-speed suction does this. Nutritional supplements and chelating agents can also be advised on.
Root canal therapy
Sometimes this procedure is needed to fight off infections or re-build a very broken down tooth. By using magnification through dental loupes and microscopes, we can predictably carry out root canal therapy. This method is great at saving teeth that would otherwise be extracted.
Children’s Dentistry
We understand that going to the dentist is not everyone’s favourite past time. We have created a unique and friendly experience to make it welcoming and fun for our young clients. Our aim is to make their experience memorable and therefore allowing them to grow up liking the dentist and their visits so that they can grow up with the best possible oral health into adulthood.
We promise to take the individual needs, fears and wishes of our child patients and their parents very seriously. We have dedicated child friendly language and props to make the dental visit into a truly fun experience.
Preventative Care spa
We believe in prevention. Preventing our clients fearing their visits, preventing any decay or gum disease, preventing tooth loss or pain. We love prevention! Our therapist is lovely and will help create the perfect experience for our young clients- be it their first visit or for any treatment sessions!
Oral Hygiene Club
The British Paediatric Society reported in 2003 that 10% of 5 year olds had a filling even though 41 % had obvious decay. 54 % of 8 year olds had obvious decay but only 22% had them filled. We would like to prevent these figures in our client base and believe that those that join our Oral Hygiene Club receive a dedicated team approach to prevention. Our care nurse will spend time brushing teeth in front of the young clients and then help them join in- making it a fun experience.
Treatment choices
We offer optimum dentistry so your child can grow up with minimum pain and discomfort. We believe baby teeth or primary teeth are really important. They guide the adult teeth into position. Therefore, we try our best to keep them as long as naturally possible.
Orthodontic care
We assess our child clients frequently for orthodontic care from the age of 8. There are two schools of thoughts- early orthodontics and traditional late or teen-based orthodontics. We try to pick up issues early and if possible start orthodontics early from the age of 10. This is termed interceptive orthodontics and help prevent having teeth taken out later on.
We understand that a significant number of the population do not like coming to the dentist. Our aim is to totally transform their experiences and remove any fears and obstacles. We cater for nervous patients so that we can promote oral health and improve access to dental care.
Nervous patients
We understand you! We will offer you appointments with appropriate time so that we can understand your wishes and fears and not rush you. We will listen carefully to your phobia and try to find ways of overcoming them. We offer a lot of TLC and if that doesn’t work then we can offer sedation.
Sedation
Many people fear going to the dentist or have a dental phobia. Sedation is a great tool for those that want to be a little relaxed whilst having their treatment. The client is still awake but feels drunk and carefree. When the procedure is finished- you feel refreshed and do not remember the episode or any pain.
Intravenous sedation is great for lengthy implant work and is totally safe in a controlled environment. Be aware- we will try to wean you off sedation once we feel you have become more confident and gained trust.
Pain Free dentistry
Topical Gel
A gel is placed above the injection site prior to any anaesthetic given. This helps numb up the gum before any injection and therefore helps you gain confidence in pain free dentistry. We have different flavours and the pina colada is very popular!
The Wand
Dr Mohsin Uddin is trained to use the Wand TM system for pain free analgesia. This is a method for pain free injection- using a computer to give you just the right amount of numbing liquid- at the right pressure and speed- resulting in pain free dentistry.
We understand that you have done well to be sitting in the dental chair that the last thing we need to do is add pain. Pain free dentistry means just that! We will wait until you are fully numb before we start any procedure.
Do you suffer from headaches, migraines, grinding and clenching? Do you feel daily stresses are being taken out on your teeth? Have you noticed your front teeth appearing shorter or ground down? Do you have sensitive teeth or cracked teeth and or fillings?
Funky dentistry looks at why these things may be occurring. We believe that your joint, muscles and teeth are all related. Dr Mohsin Uddin trained at the Pankey Institute, USA and under Dr Roy Higson, UK in this very specialised field termed “occlusion”.
Occlusion
Occlusion looks at the way your teeth meet and how you bite and whether this could be linked to any of the descriptions above. Our teeth meet in a certain way. If we have lots of fillings and dental work, the biting surfaces of our teeth are changed. This change may work well with us and our muscles adapt to the change. If these muscles are overworked they may become fatigued. This can result in headaches, eye pain, neck and shoulder pain or just jaw ache.
We know that some people can live within the limits of their pain, but for some this can become unbearable. Stress from work, home or personal lives can make this worse or just be the tipping factor to start something off. Recent dental work on an unsuspecting individual has also known to start issues.
Due to the pace of our lifestyles, more and more people find themselves clenching and grinding their teeth. This again is overworking the muscles and can lead to tooth wear (teeth appearing shorter), sensitivity and of course muscle pain.
We believe you deserve a comprehensive examination to understand your unique concerns and see if we can help.
Splint therapy
A splint is different to what others would term a night guard or mouth guard. A night guard or mouth guard is not specifically designed and are often bulky and uncomfortable to wear.
One of the easiest ways to see if your teeth play a role in headaches or migraines is to wear a custom made splint. A splint is a well fitting and comfortable plastic appliance that can fit on the tops of your teeth. It can be made for either the bottom or the top teeth. It acts like physiotherapy for the jaw and relaxes the jaw muscles over time. This is one of the most effective ways for both the dentist and the client to understand their bite.
The splint is mainly worn at night when you are asleep and the daily stresses are normally taken out on your teeth. This means the splint takes the forces and helps guide teeth over each other smoothly without causing further damage. The forces that work on your teeth at night are at least twice as much as the maximum force when you are awake. If your teeth are chipped, worn or rough- you probably need a splint.
A splint can also be used for diagnosis before a cosmetic or full mouth makeover. It can be meticulously designed to act as the blueprint for the final smile. Sometimes we will ask you to wear a splint after dental work so that your new beautiful smile stays protected for many years to come.
Sleep apnoea and snoring
These conditions can be life threatening and have straining effects on relationships. Sleep apnoea is when an individual stops breathing momentarily during sleep. This can cause the individual to wake up in panic and often restless. Because the sleep is interrupted, one can feel tired and lethargic. There is also an increased risk of heart attack associated with sleep apnoea.
We can help you by listening and understanding to your concerns. If appropriate we can refer you to sleep clinics and also construct an appliance that helps you breathe and sleep better. This will result in you not snoring and waking up with a better night's sleep!
Bad breath/halitosis
Bad breath or halitosis is very common. Bacteria from the mouth let off smells that causes bad breath or halitosis. The most common causes are diet, smoking and poor oral hygiene.
We can look at your diet and help you improve it, give you smoking cessation advice and of course carry our periodontal (gum) therapy and improve home care.
Hygienist services
Bacteria can cause inflammation, gum disease, infections and bad breath. Teeth can have build up known as tartar, which needs to be professionally cleaned. We encourage better oral health by involving you with our caring hygienist.
The hygienist will help you educate disease process in a friendly, positive and non-patronising way. By understanding, your disease process, you are better equipped to take full control of your condition and try to keep your teeth for life.
We believe that those with lots of filling or dental work should have regular maintenance appointments with the hygienist. This helps prevent gum disease, tooth decay or failing dental work. It also helps pick up problems early so issues can be resolved early without invasive and more costly procedures.
Stain removal
Stains from tea, coffee and wine can be removed easily. We use a polishing system that is kind to your teeth and gums and gives you that refreshed look and feel. After stain removal you can see if you need a gentle spruce up with teeth whitening.
